Washing silk
Silk garments should be hand washed. Fill a basin with lukewarm water and add a mild liquid detergent specifically formulated for silk. Submerge the silk item and gently swirl it around for a few minutes. Avoid rubbing or wringing the fabric. Rinse thoroughly with cool water until all the soap is removed. Handle the wet silk item with care to prevent stretching or distortion.
Drying silk
After washing, gently squeeze out excess water from the silk garment without wringing. Lay it flat on a clean, dry towel. Roll up the towel with the silk item inside to absorb excess moisture. Avoid hanging silk items to dry, as this can stretch the fabric. Once most of the moisture is absorbed, carefully reshape the silk item and lay it flat on a drying rack or a clean, dry towel away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
Ironing silk
To remove wrinkles from silk garments, it's best to iron them while they are slightly damp or using a low-heat setting.
Set your iron to the silk or low-heat setting. Place a clean, damp cloth or a pressing cloth over the silk item to protect it from direct heat.
Gently glide the iron over the cloth, applying light pressure. Avoid leaving the iron in one place for too long to prevent scorching.
Alternatively, use a clothing steamer on a low setting.
Alternatively, you can hang silk items in a steamy bathroom to allow the steam to naturally release wrinkles.
